Takeover

“Takeover” by Amy Guidry; Acrylic on canvas; 10″ x 8″; (c) Amy Guidry 2023

Happy to share my latest painting Takeover which features an alligator, one of Louisiana’s most popular animals and considered one of the most dangerous. The alligator’s teeth, replaced with human hands, reference the real danger, greed. With human-driven mass extinction underway, natural habitats such as wetlands are at risk, while hands reach out for more. Takeover is an acrylic on canvas, 10″ wide by 8″ high, and you can view it online here: https://amyguidry.com/gallery/takeover/index.html.

Omen

“Omen” by Amy Guidry; Acrylic on canvas; 12″ x 6″; (c) Amy Guidry 2023

Revealing my latest painting Omen. The sketch for this started in 2017 and I opted to do an entirely different painting. I revisited it and made a few changes. Fun fact: polar bears can’t climb trees. They lost that trait since they evolved in the Arctic where there are no trees. Omen is an acrylic on canvas, 12″ wide by 6″ high, and you can view it online here: https://amyguidry.com/omen.html.

Lumen

“Lumen” by Amy Guidry; Acrylic on canvas; 5″ x 5″; SOLD; (c) Amy Guidry 2023

Happy to share my new painting Lumen which features a Calleta silkmoth. Most nocturnally active moths are attracted to light, a phenomenon known as positive phototaxis, but in Lumen, the light comes from the moth, as they represent life in my paintings. Lumen is an acrylic on canvas, 5″ wide by 5″ high, and available at LeMieux Galleries in New Orleans as well as via their website: https://www.lemieuxgalleries.com/art/lumen-by-amy-guidry.

Amalgam

“Amalgam” by Amy Guidry; Acrylic on canvas; 5″ x 5″; $400; (c) Amy Guidry 2022

Excited to share my new painting Amalgam. It features a Paralomis histrix, a species of king crab sometimes referred to as the porcupine crab. The soft curved lines of the background playfully contrast with the crab’s spikes, in keeping with the pastel-colored theme. The softly transparent rose also adds to this juxtaposition while connecting flora and fauna. Amalgam is an acrylic on canvas, 5” wide by 5” high, and available through LeMieux Galleries in New Orleans or via their website: https://www.lemieuxgalleries.com/art/amalgam-by-amy-guidry.

Equilibrium

“Equilibrium” by Amy Guidry; Acrylic on canvas; 6″ x 6″; $600; (c) Amy Guidry 2022

Revealing my most recent painting in the In Our Veins series. Equilibrium features a Japanese macaque, also known as the snow monkey, one of my favorite animals since I was a kid and obsessed with pink. The pink hues in the monkey’s face and amaryllis flowers connect the two visually while the honeybees connect all flora and fauna as promoters of biodiversity. Equilibrium is an acrylic on canvas, 6″ wide by 6″ high and currently available through LeMieux Galleries in New Orleans and via their website here: https://www.lemieuxgalleries.com/art/equilibrium-by-amy-guidry.

Relic

“Relic” by Amy Guidry; Acrylic on canvas; 4″ x 4″; Sold; (c) Amy Guidry 2022

Happy to share my new painting Relic featuring a chambered nautilus, a type of mollusk and distant relative of squid, octopi, and cuttlefish. The nautilus is known as a living fossil as similar animals existed over 500 million years ago, long before dinosaurs. The bubbles (or stars) in this piece are open to interpretation. It’s up to you whether they are bubbles in the sea or stars in the sky. Relic is an acrylic on canvas, 4” wide by 4” high, and you can view it on my website here: https://amyguidry.com/relic.html.
