I still can’t get over the amazing turnout at the Hilliard Museum the other night. The opening reception for Louisiana Voices: Six Artists Speak to Us was this past Friday. The exhibit looks great and I will be going back just to finish looking at everything. It was so busy and packed that I did not get to check out all the art. I do have photos to share of the event opening and will be posting more to my website soon. The exhibit is up now through December 8th at the Paul & Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum in Lafayette, LA. Also of note: an exhibition panel discussion will be held on September 29th from 2-4pm.

This summer has been incredibly busy to say the least. I’ve had to miss out on openings for shows because I’m already at the opening for another. I suppose these are the moments I could use a stunt double… At least I can vicariously enjoy the Wally Workman Gallery opening for 100 Degrees thanks to the photos. The exhibit is up now through September 1st and features new work by several of the gallery’s artists. One of which being mine… you may recognize this painting from an earlier post. Another painting from my In Our Veins series will have a new home. Symbiotic is an acrylic on canvas, 11″w x 14″h. There is a good bit of history to this piece- for starters, it comes from one of the original sketches I did in the early stages of the series. Because I do these sketches while I am currently working on other paintings, it can be quite some time before they come to fruition. Needless to say, I have lived with the concept for Symbiotic for awhile. Also, it was this year’s Best of Show winner in the Surreal Salon held at the Baton Rouge Gallery Center for Contemporary Art. As a result of my win, it was featured in ads in both Juxtapoz and Hi-Fructose magazine. I’m happy that it will be in good hands and joining a fantastic collection of work.

Another painting from the In Our Veins series has found a new home. Untitled (Desert) is an acrylic on canvas, 4″ x 4,” and will be joining a couple of my other paintings. My next show is just around the bend as July is coming to a close. My painting Succession will be featured at Wally Workman Gallery in Austin, TX as part of their group exhibition, “100 Degrees.” The show will feature works by several of the gallery’s represented artists. The exhibit dates are August 4th through September 1st, with a Preview held during their First Thursday Artwalk on August 2nd, from 6-8pm. I get so many questions about my work ranging from simple to philosophical, so today I thought I’d post about one of the more fun ones. Sort of a Where’s Waldo post. So some of you have asked about the models I’ve used in my paintings, which have always been varied from series to series. However, there is one model that has been used for almost every body of work. If you’ve been following my work since the early days, you probably know the answer to this. Aside from using my own face, the next cheap and readily available model I know is my husband. Depending on the painting, some are an exact resemblance, some take artistic license, and some don’t even feature his face (i.e. Everything’s Coming Up Roses). So here are some of the paintings he has appeared in some form or another:

Excited to announce that my work has been selected for the 2012 Art Melt. The jurors for this year’s event are Franklin Sirmans (Terri and Michael Smooke Department Head and Curator of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art); Ron Platt (Hugh Kaul Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Birmingham Museum of Art); and Thomas Neff (Artist and Professor, Louisiana State University). The event will be held at the Shaw Center for the Arts in Baton Rouge, LA. There will be a Preview Party in which awards and a jurors’ talk will be given on July 13th from 7-11pm. The opening reception for the event will be held July 14th from 5-10pm and will remain open through August 3rd.
