I’m excited to announce that a book of my “New Realm” series is now available! This is a 40-page book which features paintings and original concept sketches from the “New Realm” series as well as an artist statement and a foreword by myself. There is an online preview of the book- note that it is not of the entire book, but it does feature several pages. You can also purchase the book online as well. I personally have the “Perfect Bound Softcover- Premium Photo Printing” version (last option listed), but you can also get a hardcover version as well as different qualities of paper.

Here’s a taste of my event photos from my show at the Schepis Museum in Columbia, LA. More on my events section of my website www.AmyGuidry.com. The show is a solo exhibit of my “New Realm” series and is up now through the end of June, so be sure to stop by if you are in the area. The News Star, the Monroe local newspaper, also ran a short article about the show. Read the article online at http://www.thenewsstar.com/article/20100528/LIFESTYLE/5280303.
If you’ve been following my blog, you may recall awhile back that I was to have a show at the Schepis Museum in Columbia, LA. Well, since that show had been planned a year in advance, and a lot can happen in the meantime, there were renovations being made that turned into a bigger project than expected. So my show had to be postponed. Well, I am happy to say that the time has come and my exhibit will open next month at the Schepis. This will be a solo exhibition of my New Realm series. This series has been in several locations in Louisiana, as well as Austin and Las Vegas. No two shows have ever been the same since works are sold and replaced or new work has been added by the time another show opens. So on and so forth.
The exhibit will open next month- May- and be open through the end of June. With a two-month display time, this should give many of you a chance to see the work in person. I can’t stress enough that I have to use low-res, small images on the web (thanks to copyright infringement), so seeing my paintings in person is a whole other experience. The opening reception will be held on Sunday, May 30th from 2-4 pm.
Many works from the New Realm series can be seen online at www.AmyGuidry.com. While you are there, be sure to check out my Press section for an article in the current issue of Art Calendar Magazine about New Realm.
I’m happy to say that two of my paintings have sold over the past week. That’s one thing about holiday shopping that I don’t mind. It goes without saying, but art is an original and personal gift, so I’m always delighted when someone wants to give one of my creations to their loved ones. That said, my painting, “Evolving” is now going to make someone’s Christmas merry. If you are unfamiliar, “Evolving” is from my New Realm series, which you can view in its entirety at www.AmyGuidry.com.
"Food or Pet? How Do You Decide?" by Amy Guidry
And if you read my blog often, you will be more than familiar with this painting- “Food or Pet? How Do You Decide?” This piece is currently in the “Feast” exhibition at Wally Workman Gallery in Austin (you may recall me mentioning it…). It sold just the other day, though it may or may not be a gift. Could be a gift to one’s self… This painting comes from my social commentary series, which is also on my website.
So with that said, I’m off to take care of my own holiday errands. (And get some new photos of my next painting…so be sure to check back.)
The “Feast” exhibit is currently on display at Wally Workman Gallery in Austin, TX. My painting, “Food or Pet? How Do You Decide?” is featured in the window of the gallery and was used as the image for the show. It was also selected for the upcoming event, “Edible Austin,” in which chefs will create their culinary interpretations of my painting. I hope they realize you can do a lot with tofu…
I was at the opening reception last weekend and have a few photos to share. The entire album will be posted on my website soon (www.AmyGuidry.com), so be on the lookout.
On the upstairs level of the gallery, various works by the gallery’s represented artists were also on display. I took the opportunity to pose with my painting, “Acceptance” from my New Realm series.
"Boarfish" by Amy Guidry; From the New Realm series. (C) Amy Guidry 2009
I’ve recently sold another painting from my New Realm series. This one is titled “Boarfish” and was recently on exhibit at Galerie Lafayette in Lafayette, LA. I wanted to spotlight this character from a larger piece I had done titled “Acceptance.” BTW, “Acceptance” is now at Wally Workman Gallery in Austin, TX, so if you’re in the area, you should stop by to see it in person. It’s definitely a conversation starter to say the least. And since many people ask, here’s something educational for you (see, you can actually LEARN things on my blog…you’ll thank me later when this comes up on Jeopardy). According to Wikipedia, Boarfish is the common name of two unrelated groups of fishes: All fish of the family Caproidae are called boarfish. Some fish of the family Pentacerotidae are called boarfish. For the record, I knew nothing of this when I came up with my paintings, I just like boars and fish a lot. So I combined the two to create a friendly “beast” for my surreal fairytale. And if you’d like to see more of this series, be sure to visit my website at www.AmyGuidry.com

I’ve been busy preparing for my next exhibit and it’s just about here. October 10th is the opening night for my solo exhibition at Galerie Lafayette. If you’re in the area, you may already know that this is the same evening for the next Artwalk in downtown Lafayette, LA. So plenty of galleries will be open late and have new exhibitions up as well. I’m excited to have this show since I will be revealing new work in addition to some pieces you may have seen on my website, www.AmyGuidry.com. I’ll have many paintings from the 5″ x 5″ series on display as well, which are perfect for those getting a head start on their gift shopping.
So mark your calendars! I will be in attendance, so stop by and say hello. October 10th from 5-8(ish) pm at Galerie Lafayette on Jefferson Street.
If you’ve been following along, you probably know by now that I had an opening last weekend. I’m sure many of my blog readers were not in the vicinity of Hammond, LA… what are the odds, really? So, I’ve posted just a few photos from the show. (You can see more where that came from in my Events section on my website, so here’s the link: www.AmyGuidry.com/events.html.) There were a lot of people in attendance, especially since the opening was held during “Hot August Night,” which is an annual art & music festival. My painting, “Cocoon,” sold during opening night. The show received a highly positive response from those in attendance. I ran out of business cards before the night was over! Note to self: bring a backup stash of cards in a ziplock bag and cram into teeny tiny purse.
So if you haven’t seen the show and are in Louisiana, you can still check out my work! My New Realm series is on display at the Oak Street Gallery in Hammond, LA at 111 North Oak St. (go figure). And for a virtual show experience, go to my website at www.AmyGuidry.com.

Wow, seems I’m going to be on the eastern side of Louisiana yet again. I currently have a solo exhibit up at the Oak Street Gallery in Hammond, LA (which opens this Friday!) and now I will have a show in New Orleans coming up next month. Lots of driving is on my future agenda… I found out today that my work was selected for inclusion in “No Dead Artists,” which is a juried exhibition held annually at Jonathan Ferrara Gallery in New Orleans. Jurors for this year’s show were Miranda Lash, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the New Orleans Museum of Art; Charles Whited, New Orleans, LA; and John Kemp, writer, ARTNews, Art & Antiquities, American Artist, Louisiana Life, and editor of LA Cultural Vistas.
