I’ve just finished both paintings previously featured while in progress. Pervasive and Sentience will both be on exhibit for the opening at LeMieux Galleries in New Orleans tomorrow (June 3, 2017). Pervasive has been a long time in the making. I’m sometimes asked if living in Louisiana affects my work. Given that my work deals with the welfare of our planet, many of the issues that Louisiana faces (habitat loss, flooding, BP oil spill, hurricanes) are something that I cover but on more of a global scale. Pervasive is one of the most direct pieces I’ve done, focusing on the conservation of Louisiana wildlife and wetlands. The BP oil spill not only affected the wildlife of Louisiana, but it continues to affect the wildlife of rest of the world to this day as bird and sea animals continue to migrate. It may be asking a lot of a painting, but I hope that it has a big impact.
Sentience was specifically created for the “Face to Face” exhibit opening at LeMieux Galleries. The exhibit features a range of interpretations of portraiture. In Sentience, the butterflies represent the beauty and fragility of life, while the third eye represents enlightenment. The eye is a human eye, referring to the fact that we are all members of the animal kingdom, and can see a bit of ourselves in the personalities of other animals. Sentience is an acrylic on canvas, 6″wide by 6″high.
Both paintings will be on view tomorrow, June 3rd for the opening reception from 6-8pm. The exhibit will remain up through July 29th, 2017.

I’ve made some more progress on my latest painting. I’m in the home stretch on this one. At 10″ wide by 20″ high, this is a large size given all the detail work (and that yet to be done!). It’s coming along slowly but surely. This is a close-up of one of the pelicans I recently finished. I’ll be revealing the entire finished piece soon.

I’ve just added a new painting to my In Our Veins series. The title is Adpectus, which is Latin for vision, and it is an acrylic on canvas, 4″ wide by 4″ high. This piece continues with the theme of organs on the outside of the body as a reminder of our shared biology. I’m happy to be able to announce that an interview I did with The Advocate is out now. Patricia Gannon wrote the feature discussing my current series, In Our Veins, and the message behind it. I’ve recently finished two new paintings in my In Our Veins series. Encroach is an acrylic on canvas, 6″ by 6.” It serves as a subtle commentary on human intervention in nature while illustrating the connection of the natural world to all life. Reciprocal is the latest addition to the smaller series of paintings within In Our Veins. It is also an acrylic on canvas, 4″ by 4.” Reciprocal conveys the connection to nature by linking flora and fauna and uses the ribbon to continue the recent theme exploring anonymity versus connection.

As mentioned before, I will be showing as part of the “Menagerie” group exhibition at the Amelia Center Gallery at Gulf Coast State College. The show’s opening is just around the corner- this Friday, February 3rd, 5-7pm. I’m honored to be among such a great group of artists and their unique approach to animals in art.
The exhibit will be on display at at Gulf Coast State College in Panama City, Florida from February 3 – March 3, 2017. Artists featured are: Adam Doyle, Katherine Gallagher, Amy Guidry, Laurie Hogin, Gabriel Lovejoy, Chris Musina, and Kevin Taylor.

I’m happy to say that I’ve just finished Indispensable (the large painting of the horse). This piece has been in the works for a few months, granted I had a couple of projects pop up as I was invited to do them, but this is one of my larger paintings. It is an acrylic on canvas, 20″ wide by 10″ high. Indispensable connects a mountain landscape with a horse, representing the connection of all life while keeping with a recent theme exploring the question of anonymity versus connection. I also finished a couple of small paintings I’d been wanting to do. Cor and Corporis (Latin for heart and body, respectively) are acrylic on canvas, 4″ x 4.” Both feature rabbits and are complimentary paintings that work as a pair or as individual pieces, both using ribbon to connect to either the ribcage or the heart. Seeing these organs and bones serves as a reminder of the biological similarities of all sentient beings.
