Sometimes I receive installation images from people after they’ve hung my work in their home. It’s always nice to see my work again and how it looks in its new space, plus if it’s been included in groupings of work by other artists, that’s always nice to see. So these are a few shots featuring paintings from my In Our Veins series and Beneath the Surface series.

“Realize” by Amy Guidry; Acrylic on canvas; 4″ x 4″; SOLD; (c) Amy Guidry 2017
I’ve just finished a small painting that I recently posted while in progress. It is the latest addition to my In Our Veins series. The title is Realize and it is an acrylic on canvas, 4″ wide by 4″ high. I was inspired to create this one after finishing Sentience. In Realize, the eye that is featured is a human eye which refers to our connection to all other animals. View it online here: https://amyguidry.com/realize.html.

Progress shot of a new small painting I have in the works. This is a new addition to my In Our Veins series, part of the small works within the series. It is an acrylic on canvas, 4″ by 4.” The finished piece will be posted soon. In the meantime, the rest of the series can be viewed here: https://amyguidry.com/gallery.html.

“Pervasive” by Amy Guidry; Acrylic on canvas; 10″w x 20″h; (c) Amy Guidry 2017“Sentience” by Amy Guidry; Acrylic on canvas; 6″ x 6″; SOLD; (c) Amy Guidry 2017
I’ve just finished both paintings previously featured while in progress. Pervasive and Sentiencewill both be on exhibit for the opening at LeMieux Galleries in New Orleans tomorrow (June 3, 2017). Pervasive has been a long time in the making. I’m sometimes asked if living in Louisiana affects my work. Given that my work deals with the welfare of our planet, many of the issues that Louisiana faces (habitat loss, flooding, BP oil spill, hurricanes) are something that I cover but on more of a global scale. Pervasive is one of the most direct pieces I’ve done, focusing on the conservation of Louisiana wildlife and wetlands. The BP oil spill not only affected the wildlife of Louisiana, but it continues to affect the wildlife of rest of the world to this day as bird and sea animals continue to migrate. It may be asking a lot of a painting, but I hope that it has a big impact.
Sentience was specifically created for the “Face to Face” exhibit opening at LeMieux Galleries. The exhibit features a range of interpretations of portraiture. In Sentience, the butterflies represent the beauty and fragility of life, while the third eye represents enlightenment. The eye is a human eye, referring to the fact that we are all members of the animal kingdom, and can see a bit of ourselves in the personalities of other animals. Sentience is an acrylic on canvas, 6″wide by 6″high.
Both paintings will be on view tomorrow, June 3rd for the opening reception from 6-8pm. The exhibit will remain up through July 29th, 2017.

While working on my pelican painting, I had another project come up. Here is a sneak peek of the work in progress- more will be revealed soon. It is an acrylic on canvas, 6″ wide by 6″ high. In the meantime, check out more paintings from this series here: https://amyguidry.com/gallery.html.
“Indispensable” by Amy Guidry; Acrylic on canvas; 20″w x 10″h; (c) Amy Guidry 2017
I’m happy to say that I’ve just finished Indispensable (the large painting of the horse). This piece has been in the works for a few months, granted I had a couple of projects pop up as I was invited to do them, but this is one of my larger paintings. It is an acrylic on canvas, 20″ wide by 10″ high. Indispensable connects a mountain landscape with a horse, representing the connection of all life while keeping with a recent theme exploring the question of anonymity versus connection. View it online here: https://amyguidry.com/indispensable.html.
I also finished a couple of small paintings I’d been wanting to do. Cor and Corporis (Latin for heart and body, respectively) are acrylic on canvas, 4″ x 4.” Both feature rabbits and are complimentary paintings that work as a pair or as individual pieces, both using ribbon to connect to either the ribcage or the heart. Seeing these organs and bones serves as a reminder of the biological similarities of all sentient beings. View them online here: https://amyguidry.com/corporis.html and here: https://amyguidry.com/cor.html.

In The Wild West, a skeletal horse and human hybrid, suggesting our practices of genetic manipulation, serves as a grim tale of foreboding. The skeleton, the horse skull, and the desert are symbols of cowboys and typical Western imagery. Television Westerns would typically portray life as good vs. bad, when in reality, the land, environment, people, and animals were all seen as a means to an end. The title refers to how the U.S., itself a part of the western hemisphere, is still taking over land, animals, and resources to this day, creating desert landscapes via clear-cutting and global warming.
“Clear-Cut” by Amy Guidry; Acrylic on canvas; 6″ x 6″; $450; (c) Amy Guidry 2016“Inseparable” by Amy Guidry; Acrylic on canvas; 4″ x 4″; SOLD; (c) Amy Guidry 2016“Evanescence” by Amy Guidry; Acrylic on canvas; 4″ x 4″; SOLD; (c) Amy Guidry 2016
I’ve recently finished three new paintings in my In Our Veins series. Two of which are from my smaller, 4″ by 4″ paintings. I was particularly interested in doing a piece on forest clear-cutting because it is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of global warming. The smaller paintings, Inseparable and Evanescence, are in reference to the connection of all life, which is the overarching theme of this series.
