Pathway, the coaster that I painted for La Luz de Jesus Gallery’s Coaster Show recently sold.  Pathway is an acrylic on cardstock, 4″ tondo.  I have one remaining coaster available- Reflection– which was just featured in Yay! The Coaster Show, which I am participating in, officially opens tonight at La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles.  Yay! I like to paint.  There was a time when I was scared to paint, thinking I wouldn’t be any good at it.  I was used to drawing and liked the precision and control I had with it.  Paint seemed messy and unforgiving.  I can’t pinpoint exactly when I began to like painting.  I think gradually I just learned to be less critical of my results thus allowing me more opportunity to work with paint.  I like the tactile process of painting.  I like filling in each square inch of a canvas, transforming it from a white blank space into a story.  I like the toothy texture of the canvas.  I like the look of the paint as it spreads across and fills in each crevice.  I like the challenge of it even though it can be daunting.  I just really like to paint.

My most recent painting is now online.  The title is Preservation and it is an acrylic on canvas, 8″ wide by 10″ high.  The deer and leaves illustrate the connection between animals and forests, and the need to protect nature as a whole.  It is the latest addition to my In Our Veins series, and can be viewed online here: http://amyguidry.com/preservation.html.
