OK Great

OK Great feature: Amy Guidry

I am happy to share with you that my work is currently featured on OK Great.  Two paintings from the In Our Veins series are included- The Wild West and Untitled (Heads).  Brendan Ward said of my work, “Such beautifully demented paintings from Amy Guidry. I’ve been watching a lot of Breaking Bad lately, and maybe it’s just the desert landscapes prevalent in her work, but I can’t help but associate Amy’s series “Wild West” with the show. Twisted, but oddly familiar.”  Check it out as well as the array of great art and design on there at this link: www.okaygreat.com/2012/01/amy-guidry/

Secret Still

Secret Still feature: Amy Guidry

I received a great little review by Brad Martin of Secret Still the other day.  My painting Untitled (Heads) is featured (as seen in the screen grab on the left).  I was flattered that Josh Keyes came to mind when he viewed my work, as I am a fan of his as well.  You can read his flattering- and humorous- review at http://www.secretstill.com/blog/2012/01/11/amy-guidry/.

Professional Artist Magazine Feature

Professional Artist Magazine, Dec/Jan 2012 issue

I’m excited to announce that I’m currently featured in Professional Artist Magazine (formerly Art Calendar Magazine) as part of their December/January issue.  The article is titled “Communicating Social Messages through Art, Partnership and Publicity” and was written by Renee Phillips, aka The Artrepreneur Coach.  I am honored to be a featured artist and to have had the opportunity to share some insight in this article.  If you’ve been following my work, you know that art is my passion but reaching people through my work is also incredibly important.  I strive to inspire others as well as get them thinking, talking, and acting upon issues that are of personal as well as social importance.  In addition, Renee makes a great point that it is up to the artists, no matter what their subject matter, to be proactive about getting their work out there.  I strongly agree and if you’ve checked out my previous posts on press releases, you understand why.  I can’t post the actual article but if you would like to read a modified version of it, you can check it out on Renee’s site at www.manhattanarts.com/readingroom/ezine/CareerBusiness/Renee_Social-Issues.htm.

“In Our Veins” Video Feature

I’m excited to announce the “arrival” of my new video project featuring In Our Veins.  This latest video is an in-depth look into the series, discussing my thoughts behind several paintings, as well as some great closeup views of the work.  The video is narrated by Cheryl Mack (she also narrated the New Realm video- many people have asked if it was me).  My description does not do it justice- so be sure to check it out by clicking the image below or visiting Youtube at http://youtu.be/raQXeTBHJTQ.

Eclectix interview

Artist Amy Guidry interview for Eclectix

I recently did an interview for Eclectix with Patricia Zemanek and it is now online!  This coincides with their “Bad to the Bone” Volume 10 issue in which my work is also featured among some great artists, including a personal fave- Laurie Lipton.  To read the interview, go to: http://eclectixetc.wordpress.com/2011/11/09/amy-guidry-eclectix-interview-26/.

On the Cover

Amy Guidry's painting "Introspective" on the cover of Country Roads Magazine, October 2011

I recently had a nice surprise- I did an interview for Country Roads magazine and my painting “Introspective” is on the cover of their October issue.  The issue’s theme is “Myths & Legends” so my New Realm series was a good fit.  “Introspective” is an acrylic on canvas, 40″w x 30″h, and even though it is sold, there are several available paintings from the same series.  New Realm, in short, challenges the antiquated views of women as often seen in fairy tales.  Using a surreal backdrop, it is a modern tale which presents the heroine as a strong and courageous woman.  To view a larger image of the cover, as well as read the interview with James Fox-Smith, go to this direct link: http://countryroadsmagazine.com/2011/october-2011-issue.

Review

NOLA Defender- "The Art of Mortality" by Kathy Rodriguez

Kathy Rodriguez wrote a great review of the “Artists Who Wish They Were Dead II” exhibit for the NOLA Defender.  The show is up now through September 3rd at Barrister’s Gallery (where you can see my work) and UNO St. Claude Gallery- both on St. Claude in New Orleans.  You can read the article at this direct link: http://www.noladefender.com/content/art-mortality.

Movie Feature

"When Angels Sing" by Turk Pipkin

If you follow my Facebook page, you may know some of this news already, but I haven’t posted about it here yet.  One of my paintings was used for the filming of a book-turned-movie titled “When Angels Sing.”  The painting that will be featured is “Wisdom” from my “New Realm” series, which you can view here: www.AmyGuidry.com/Wisdom.html.  I’m extremely honored to have my work included in this film.

“When Angels Sing” is based on the book by Turk Pipkin and is directed by Tim McCanlies. The film will star Connie Britton, Harry Connick Jr., Kris Kristofferson, Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson, Turk Pipkin, Frankie Jonas, Chandler Canterbury, and Fionnula Flanagan. Musician appearances include Sara Hickman and the Jonas Brothers. Filming has already wrapped up and the movie is scheduled to be out this holiday season 2011.
