I’ve recently finished another new painting in the In Our Veins series.  It’s titled Tree of Life and it is an acrylic on canvas, 4″ wide by 6″ high.  The idea for this one was from one of my earlier sketches, though I modified it a bit and added the moths.  View the painting online here: www.amyguidry.com/tree-of-life.html.

“Vessel” by Amy Guidry; acrylic on canvas; 4″ x 4″; SOLD; (c) Amy Guidry 2012

Another painting from my In Our Veins series has found a new home.  This piece is titled Vessel and is an acrylic on canvas, 4″ x 4.”  It will soon join one of my other paintings from the same series.  I like working on these small paintings- they work well individually and as well as in a group.  Some people have asked how or even why I work so small- even my larger pieces have a lot of little details.  I never thought much of it- I like to work on detail, simple as that.  It’s fun for me to work on one square inch at a time and then step back and see how it works in the grand scheme of things.  Within those square inches, I’m adding little dabs of paint, which when viewed at such a close range, is really abstract.  It’s my foray into the abstract world.  You can view the series online here: www.amyguidry.com/wild_west.html.

Vessel

“Vessel” by Amy Guidry; acrylic on canvas; 4″ x 4″; SOLD; (c) Amy Guidry 2012

I’ve just added a new painting to the In Our Veins series titled Vessel, and it is 4″ x 4,” acrylic on canvas, $100.  It was created from a sketch I did three years ago (!) and just wasn’t able to incorporate it at the time.  I was reminded of it when going through my sketchbooks the other day and found that it was perfect for this series.  The moth, which I took artistic liberty with, represents life.  It can be viewed as life either leaving the body or entering it, that is entirely up to the viewer.  No matter how it is viewed, life is part of us for a certain period of time.  It transitions from one living organism to the next.  The body contains life- it is a vessel.  To view a larger image, go to: www.amyguidry.com/vessel.html.

15th International Open

I’m just now getting around to posting photos from the opening reception of the 15th International Open.  My painting Fleeting was selected for the exhibit at Woman Made Gallery by guest juror Linda Warren of Linda Warren Gallery, also in Chicago.  Here are a few of the photos from opening night- more are on my website at www.amyguidry.com/events.html.  The good news is there is still time to see it since the show is up now through April 26th.

Three paintings from my In Our Veins series have recently found a new home in Norway!  Interconnected, Full Circle, and Ephemeral are all acrylic on canvas, 6″ x 6,” 4″ x 4,” and 4″ x 4,” respectively.  I’m happy to have my work go abroad and to such a wonderful, thoughtful new owner as well.  It means so much to me to have someone show such appreciation for my work and to know that it speaks to them in such a personal manner.  No award could ever compare.

To view a larger image of each painting, visit my website at this direct link: www.amyguidry.com/interconnected.html (don’t forget to watch the 30-second video of the making of Interconnected from start to finish- the button is located below the painting).  For Ephemeral view here: www.amyguidry.com/ephemeral.html and for Full Circle, view here: www.amyguidry.com/full-circle.html.

Chicago!!

"Fleeting" by Amy Guidry; acrylic on canvas; 8"w x 10"h; (c) Amy Guidry 2011

I wasn’t sure what to title this post other than “Chicago.”  I figured Chicago conjures up good things- the band, the musical, the city… so in this case Chicago conjures up another good thing- an exhibition!  I was waiting for the results of the 15th International Open at Woman Made Gallery in Chicago and received my notice the other day that my work was selected!  I’m excited to be included in this show as well as excited to be showing in Chicago for the first time.  I was honored to be one of the few chosen since only 33 works were chosen from 750 entered.  The juror for the exhibition is Linda Warren, director of Linda Warren Gallery in Chicago.  The show will open March 2nd, with a reception from 6-9pm and will be up through April 26th.

Selected artists are: Karen Appleton, Patti Bartelstein, Angelique Brickner, Cat Del Buono, Catherin Colaw, Renee Couture, Pat Dumas-Hudecki, Sebrina Fassbender, Alexandra Fritz, Amanda Greive, Amy Guidry, Zoe Hawk, Edith Hillinger, Ellen Holtzblatt, Aran Illingworth, Pamela Johnson, Kay Knight, Mie Kongo, Sioban Lombardi, Jennifer Moore, Anna Pamasa, Silvana LaCreta Ravena, Janet Roberts, Clare Rosean, Sausan Saulat, Carrie Schumacher, Soo Shin, Beverly Y. Smith, Allison Svoboda, Camille Swift, and Susan Smith Trees

New Small Paintings

I recently added two new small paintings to the In Our Veins series.  My latest newsletter featured both paintings (which if you would like to receive, sign up information is here: www.amyguidry.com/contact.html) and there is still one available.  The titles are Generate and Ephemeral, each are 4″ x 4,” acrylic on canvas.  Generate (sold) pertains to the life cycle and how life continues, hence the flowers growing out of the wolf’s back.  Ephemeral is still available ($100- contact me if interested) and features a moth with a heart, ribcage, and vertebrae superimposed upon it.  The premise of the painting is the importance of life- so fragile, precious, and short, in the scheme of things- and serves as a reminder to live life to the fullest.  Both paintings can be viewed (larger) on my website at www.amyguidry.com/ephemeral.html.

Fleeting

I’ve recently finished another addition to the In Our Veins series!  My painting “Fleeting” is now online- it is an acrylic on canvas, 8″ wide by 10″ high.  Since the series deals with the life cycle and our role as well as impact on it, I thought this piece would be fitting given it is an example of the brevity of life.  The moth plays an integral part since I have always had an interest in butterflies and moths and how short their life span can be (depending on the species).  They are so delicate and beautiful, and only on this earth for such a short while.  Which really is a metaphor for life in general- though many of us take it for granted and feel invincible.  The pregnant woman is no one in particular (in reality there was no model- she is completely made up), she is a mother or will be, she is nature, she is Mother Earth, she is giving life, while the moth represents life.

I have posted the progression of this painting from start to finish- sorry for the cruddy photos- all were taken by me except the final one (which is why it was taken in good lighting on the proper setting and the colors look more accurate).  View a larger version of the finished piece online at http://www.amyguidry.com/fleeting.html.
