Sold (New Painting)

"Untitled" by Amy Guidry; SOLD; acrylic on canvas; (c) Amy Guidry 2010

I’m posting my latest painting… I had photos taken and it sold the very next day. So I never actually had it posted on here beforehand or on my website, www.AmyGuidry.com. So here’s the first look… This is “Untitled”, a 6″x 6″ painting from my “In Our Veins” series. It’s inspired by another painting from the same series- “Untitled (Heads).” As a vegan, I’m always perplexed/frustrated/disturbed by the concept of animals being nothing more than parts- head, hoof, breast, wing, rib, rump, the list goes on. Animals are viewed as merely a means to an end. So with “Untitled (Heads)” and this newest painting, “Untitled,” I wanted to convey this concept in a Surrealist manner. As with its predecessor, this is an acrylic on canvas. All the tiny hairs, spots, and eyes of the ram, squirrel, and turkey caused me to go through several 00 round brushes.  So several trips to Michaels later, here is the finished piece!

On another note, as a reminder I am having a contest to win one of my New Realm 5″ x 5″ paintings. To enter, sign up for my newsletter at this link- AmyGuidry.com Sweepstakes. One out of the first 200 people to sign up will win!

It wasn’t that long ago that I posted this painting, and I am writing about it again already. “Burden to Bear” has recently sold and is now in its new home. This is an acrylic on canvas from my “In Our Veins” series. I won’t go into too much detail seeing as I just wrote about it, so if you missed the previous post, just scroll down a little and you can read up about this painting. The image is small, so to get a better view, visit my website at this direct link: www.AmyGuidry.com.

And for anyone new to the site, there is still time to sign up for the chance to win one of my New Realm 5″ x 5″ paintings. Sign up for my monthly newsletter on the Contact page of my website. Museum Acquisition

"Jenny" by Amy Guidry; 2005; SOLD; acrylic on canvas; (c) Amy Guidry 2010

I have some great news to share- if you may recall, I had a solo exhibition earlier this year at the Schepis Museum in Columbia, LA. Well, my work is now in their permanent collection! I am honored that I am the first artist in the southwestern area of Louisiana to have their work included in the Louisiana Artists collection at the Schepis Museum. My painting, “Jenny,” is now in the collection and is one of my earlier works from 2005. It is an acrylic on canvas, 13″ wide by 16″ high, framed. As mentioned before, such small photos don’t do the work justice, so be sure to get a better look on my website. The direct link can be found here: www.AmyGuidry.com.

Also, don’t miss out on the opportunity to win one of my paintings! Sign up for my newsletter to be entered to win a work from my 5 x 5 New Realm series. Just click on the direct link and enter your email address for entry- www.AmyGuidry.com Sweepstakes.

"Simone" by Amy Guidry; (c) Amy Guidry 2010
"Simone" by Amy Guidry; (c) Amy Guidry 2010

I hadn’t mentioned this sale before on my blog, but I thought it would be a great time to do so since one of my inspirations is having an opening next month. One of my earlier series consisted of portraits and figure work, this being one of those paintings. I was (and still am) a big fan of Philip Pearlstein’s work, and thought of his nudes when painting this piece (except sans the various objects in the background, since my focus was on closeup views of the faces and figures). As it turns out, Mr. Pearlstein is having an opening November 4th at Betty Cunningham Gallery in New York. Judging by the title of the show, it will consist of all new paintings, too.

So my homage to Philip Pearlstein has sold. But if you are in the area, you can see why I am such a fan of his work by checking out his show at Betty Cunningham, which will be up through Dec. 11th. And if you’d like to see more of my work, be sure to visit www.AmyGuidry.com.

One of my most recent works has found a new home already. My painting, “Untitled (Heads),” sold while at Wally Workman Gallery’s 30th Anniversary exhibit in Austin. The show is still up, so if you’ve missed it (or would like to go again!) there is still time to see it. The exhibit ends September 4th and gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 10-5. I should also mention that two more of my recent works are also in this exhibit- “The Wild West” and “Survival of the Fittest.” So if you’re in the area, be sure to get a look at these in person since photos can never do the art justice. For more information, visit www.WallyWorkmanGallery.com. And if you would like to see my entire portfolio, visit www.AmyGuidry.com.

Just found a new home for another painting! This piece is “And Justice for All. Void Where Prohibited.” I recently exhibited it in the Forum for Equality “Fight for Your Rights” exhibit at The Alamo in Lafayette, LA. It’s a large painting- 40 inches tall by 30 inches wide and an acrylic on canvas. I’ve included a couple of detail shots since a lot is lost in a small jpeg of such a big piece. Just click on the images for the full view. There are other paintings from this series that are available, so be sure to check them out on my website. Several series are featured in my gallery, but the direct link to this particular group is www.amyguidry.com/anti-aging.html.

"Pierce" by Amy Guidry; (c) Amy Guidry 2010
"Pierce" by Amy Guidry; (c) Amy Guidry 2010

My latest work may be strange or grim or surreal, depending on whom you ask. So I thought I’d lighten things up a bit and show that I’m capable of painting a variety of things. Babies, for example. I do commissioned paintings every so often, so for this piece, I painted this delightful little boy for a collector of mine. The painting is titled “Pierce” and is 11 inches wide by 14 inches high, acrylic on canvas. The pose works great for this piece since he’s practically popping out of the canvas. And who can resist that face? The photo here doesn’t quite do it justice, but you can get a better look at it on my website under the Portraits category of the Gallery at www.AmyGuidry.com.
