The Fletcher Exhibit: Social and Politically Engaged Art
I am honored to announce that my painting “Inner Peace?” received a Merit Award in the FL3TCH3R Exhibit: Social and Politically Engaged Art in Johnson City, TN. Juror is Michael Aurbach, Professor of Art at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. The exhibit is up now through November 27th at Tipton Gallery in Johnson City, Tennessee. I’ve made more progress on my new painting. It will be the latest addition to my In Our Veins series. The horse is now finished and the face and figure are currently underway. I am excited to reveal my new paintings specifically created for the North/South exhibit to open at Robert Lange Studios this week. I was one of the artists selected to create two paintings- one representing North and one representing South. My paintings are both 6″ x 6,” acrylic on canvas, titled Herd and Unit. My work was recently selected for inclusion in The Fletcher Exhibit: Social and Politically Engaged Art to be held at the Tipton Gallery in Johnson City, Tennessee. The exhibit is run by East Tennessee State University in memory of one of their students, Fletcher Dyer, in an effort to continue and advance his endeavor for politically and socially motivated art. The juror is Michael Aurbach, an artist and professor of sculpture and drawing at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. The exhibit runs November 1st through the 27th, with an opening reception on November 1st, from 6-8pm at Tipton Gallery.

I am currently working on a new addition to my In Our Veins series. This is the initial sketch on canvas using a very basic outline. Next step is to add the first layer of paint, roughing everything in. The size is 12″ by 12.” I’ll be posting more progress photos soon.

I’ve recently added a new painting to my In Our Veins series. The title is Moment and it is another 4″ x 4,” acrylic on canvas. The butterflies are a common element throughout this series, representing life. Both are fragile and last for a relatively short period of time. One of my most recent paintings from my In Our Veins series has found a new home. I recently posted a progress photo of this piece and just featured it in my recent newsletter. The title is Fusion and it is an acrylic on canvas, 4″ x 4.” This was one that I came up with the original sketch for a couple of years ago and jotted it down in my sketchbook to come back to later- something I literally do all the time. Coming up as of next week is the “Enigma” exhibit at The Shaw Center for the Arts in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The show is curated by Kelli Scott Kelley and consists of works by Jamie Baldridge of Lafayette, Louisiana; Mark Cervenka of Houston, Texas; Joshua Chambers of Bosier City, Louisiana; Amy Guidry of Lafayette, Louisiana; Todd Hines of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Debbie Kupinsky of Appleton, Wisconsin; and Karey Rawitscher of the Czech Republic. The opening reception is October 17th from 6-8pm and the exhibit will remain up through November 22nd, 2013.
